Synopsis for "...Comes a Dark Stranger"
As young men, Thor, Loki and the Warriors Three ride Asgard's frontier in search of adventure. There, the "Dark Man' confronts and challenges them. Thor strikes a blow that knocks his head off but the Dark Man picks up his head and tells Thor he must lay himself open to a blow or be dishonored. Departing, he tells Thor he will meet him in the "unknown north." Thor and Loki pursue but when they reach the Bridge of Gold and meet Desire, Loki, frightened, runs away. Thor spurns Desire's advances and crosses the bridge as it crumbles. Entering the Dark Man's fortress he finds statues of heroes the Dark Man bested. The Dark Man appears and beats Thor. Desire tries to turn him into a statue, but he resists and continues to fight, destroying the fortress, until defeated. Even as the Dark Man prepares a deathblow, Thor speaks of love for his father, rather than fear for his life. Hearing this, the Dark Man withdraws and gives Thor is horse as a gift. Thor reappears in Asgard and sees Odin, who explains the Dark Man was Fear itself, but he destroys the horse rather than accept the gift.
