History

Billions of years ago, while creating an army, ancient deity Knull created the precursors of the Symbiote race and used them to terrorize the universe. Two that resembled giant dragons (who would become known as Big Mother and Grendel) found Earth in the sixth century. When Grendel attacked a Scandinavian settlement, he was defeated by the Asgardian god Thor Odinson and became frozen in ice; retellings of this battle are believed to be the basis of the epic poem Beowulf. At some point in the subsequent centuries, through unrevealed circumstances, Big Mother became trapped in a magical prison until the wizard Merlin Demonspawn (formerly the Maha Yogi) freed her in modern times in hopes she could lead him to the Holy Grail. Angered at being treated as a lackey, Big Mother refused to cooperate, instead venturing into modern Los Angeles where talent agent Mordecai P. Boggs "discovered" her and entered her into the Federation of Women's Wrestling. At some point, Big Mother took up residence in a sunken shipwreck in the Upper New York Bay. After learning of her fellow symbiote Scream (Andi Benton), Big Mother became obsessed with parenting her and sent her pseudo-symbiote minions to capture her. After failing to lure Benton by impersonating her mother, the pseudo-symbiotes publicly attacked her, though Scream fought them off. During a later direct confrontation between the two, Scream hanged Big Mother from a construction crane until Big Mother's weight forced her body to split from her head; despite this, Scream surmised Big Mother was not permanently dead. The FBI took custody of Big Mother's remains.

Attributes

Powers

Big Mother was a shapechanger whose known forms included a winged dragon and a humanlike form, and ranged from 10' - 35'.

Abilities

She was a sorceress whose full abilities were unrevealed, and a skilled hand-to-hand combatant, but she generally relied more on greater size and strength in fights. She could create symbiote servitors of her own, though they were "watered down" versions that were typically bonded to deceased hosts.

Weaknesses

She carefully guarded her true name to prevent it being used to summon her and bind her in servitude.
